Oaxaca Street Children Grassroots, Inc.
Harold and Jodi Bauman founded Oaxaca Street Children Grassroots in 1996. They had spent a lifetime caring for their own children in Missouri, USA. where they were mental health professionals. The couple first came to Oaxaca on vacation in 1984, and although they were enchanted by the city's charms, they were deeply troubled by the many young children they saw working in the streets and parks. These youngsters were selling trinkets and candy, both during school and nighttime hours.
The Baumans began by helping one family of Triqui Indians to enroll their children in school. Each year they expanded their efforts and spent more time in Oaxaca. By 1996, they and a few friends were supporting approximately seventy children, and Harold and Jodi realized that they could reach more children if they formalized their initiative. Together with another couple, they chartered Oaxaca Street Children Grassroots and created a child-sponsorship program.
By the end of 1997, 148 children had found sponsors with the help of "Grassroots". This number climbed to 190 by the end of 1998, and to 230 by the end of 1999. Today over two hundred and sixty children and adolescents have international sponsors (or "Godparents") through the auspices of the organization. In addition, we added a Food and Medical Program in 1998, and a Community Center in 1999.
Centro de Esperanza Infantil A. C.
In 1999, we chartered a sister organization in Mexico, El Centro de Esperanza Infantil (or "Center of Hope for Children"). In March 2000, El Centro de Esperanza Infantil achieved the Mexican equivalent of a US 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
As a result, we are now carrying out our services here in Oaxaca through a Mexican organization, but neither the donation process nor our program offerings will change. Donations should still be sent to Oaxaca Street Children Grassroots, Inc.

Casa Hogar Nueva Vida is an orphanage for abandoned or mistreated
children between the ages of 1 month and 17. It was founded by Octaviano Reyes
Luna in 1996 and is funded by donations from the people of the state of Oaxaca
.
Casa Hogar Nueva Vida receives children of families of limited resources,
single parent families, and children of people in prison or hospitals and children
who have been abused by their parents. They are the only orphanage along the
coast, so when the state takes a child away from its parents, they automatically
send them to Casa Hogar. They provide schooling, lodging, medical attention

Casa Hogar Benito Juarez is located in San Augustin de las Juntas, a village on the outskirts of Oaxaca City. The children's home is dedicated to the special needs of Oaxacan children. It was founded in 1974 by Al Baker, a quadriplegic from Irving, Texas. While visiting friends, Al saw a need to care for children living in the second poorest state in Mexico.
The children of Casa Hogar Benito Juarez represent the diversity of the indigenous cultures in Oaxaca. They are Zapotec, Mixteco, Miji, Mazatecho and Nauhtl, to name a few. The children come from remote mountain villages and from very poor living conditions. The majority of the children that arrive at Casa Hogar only speak their native dialect.
Since the founding of the ministry, many children, some of them being blind, deaf or unable to walk have called Casa Hogar Benito Juarez their home. In a world where these children would not be counted of value, they are valued by God and are part of the hope and the future of Mexico.
At Casa Hogar the children receive food, clothing, and education, medical attention and physical therapy.

El Convite is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping children and youth who suffer from cerebral paralysis and their families. Cerebral paralysis is a condition that occurs due to damage to the brain during childbirth or just before or after. It is not curable; is not contagious and is not a disease.
In the state of Oaxaca, the "convite" is a traditional party in which a community comes together to help one another. They chose this name for their organization because they would like to bring attention to cerebral paralysis and invite all others in the community to come together and help children with this condition.
Their mission is to create recreational activities for youth with cerebral paralysis and to bring those who suffer from this condition and their families together to create a support system for all involved. They place special attention in rural communities of low income and provide the necessary aid and attention to those areas. El Convite also tries to coordinate their activities with those of other organizations dealing with cerebral paralysis to create a community bond, and the raise funds for the realization of the activities and to support the children and their families.
